Blessings is the latest single released by the talented Tom Walker, just before his much anticipated debut EP (also titled Blessings) due to drop on 12 May on Relentless Records.

Verging on the precipice of singing and speaking, Walker delivers shrewd lyrics as he poetically captures the daily struggles of most millennials with an essence of nonchalance with lines such as, “I got no money for the pub, no, could probably scrape enough for the bus though”. I mean, not everyone can toss in a line about playing Fifa followed by a reference to Katy Perry – but Walker certainly demonstrates that he can.

A melancholy tune, it sets a rather dismal mood but it works in a way not to distract from the lyrics unlike the usual menial pop songs of today. The unassuming backing allows Walker’s gravelly voice to shine through, especially for his power notes showcasing his raw talent. Walker’s voice has qualities similar to the likes of Paolo Nutini and Maverick Sabre as you can hear echoes of soul.

This single bodes well for his imminent EP release followed by a small headline show, hopefully the start of many more to come. Having worked with producer Jim Abbiss on Blessings who has produced tracks for the likes of Adele and The Arctic Monkeys, it would appear that it’s only a matter of time until everyone knows and loves Tom Walker.

Pre-order the EP now.
